May 2008 - HUMPHREY LYTTELTON

The sad news of the recent death of the great, irreplaceable Humphrey Lyttelton has left us with an empty space at the heart of British jazz. For many, Humph was the suave, urbane master of cool timing on "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue", but it was as a British jazz musician extraordinaire that we will remember him. We were very fortunate to have him perform in 2005 at the Porthcawl Jazz Festival in the Porthcawl Grand Pavilion. It was an unforgettable visit which all who attended will remember with great fondness. Our deepest sympathies go to his friends and family.

APRIL 2008

JAZZ & ALL THAT (Welsh) LITERATURE

Greats of the Jazz scene, with a touch of acting/literature, will soon be in Porthcawl.

Chris Barber - Top of the Bill, Saturday, 12th April 2008.

The annual Jazz Festival, as last year, will cover the whole weekend.

From Friday 11th April until Sunday 13th April 2008 at the Grand Pavilion, Porthcawl.

Porthcawl, for those of who haven't spent time here,
is a pretty and friendly, sea-side town situated about half way between Cardiff and Swansea.

For the 7th consecutive year, and following our hugely successful Festival last year, with the legendary Cleo Laine & John Dankworth, we expect high demand for tickets at the Grand Pavilion on the seafront.

OPENING EVENT - FRIDAY PIANO MASTERS

This includes a performance of Stan Tracey's 'Under Milk Wood' suite
with the mellow voice and performance talents of Wales's very own Philip Madoc.

WITH GUEST SAXOPHONIST BOBBY WELLINS

On Saturday, the great trombonist Chris Barber and
The Big Chris Barber Band top the star-studded bill.

JACQUI DANKWORTH - OPENS 'SATURDAY STARDUST' EVENING EVENT

Following in the footsteps of her famous parents,
Cleo Laine & John Dankworth,
who captivated Porthcawl's audience last year,is
Jacqui Dankworth, and Friends.

I'm sure Jacqui won't mind if we say she will most definitely
add to the glamour as well as the talent of our weekend.
